Writing for Wellbeing

Wellbeing with Kirsten offers online and in person writing for wellbeing opportunities.

The aim is to provide opportunities for self-exploration and growth through writing.

You do not need to have any experience of creative writing to join a poetry or journaling workshop, just an openness to new insights, feelings and learning about yourself. It is not about what you write, but that you write.

"… and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine."

(‘The Trees’: Mary Oliver)

What is ‘writing for wellbeing’?

Writing for Wellbeing’ works with the power of words to create insights, growth and healing (Lapidus, 2022).

In writing for wellbeing groups, we read published poetry and then become inspired to write about what we think and feel. In doing so, we gain greater insight into our feelings, which can feel very therapeutic for us.

You do not need to have any experience of creative writing at all and you will not be asked to share your writing with others in the group, unless you choose to.

I offer a range of options, suitable for all. Please contact me to discuss, if you would like to explore writing for wellbeing using poetry or journaling techniques in either an individual or group setting.

Why do I like Writing for Wellbeing?

I am inspired by the power of writing for wellbeing to support our self-exploration, self-knowledge and ultimately self-development. Life can be challenging and writing for wellbeing can help us to explore those challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Best of all is that we don’t need to have experience of writing to join in, it is not about what you write but that you write that is important. This is why I love writing for wellbeing so much, everyone can join in.

“Kirsten enabled us to write very effortlessly. Her manner and her facilitation method allowed us to write about both challenging topics as well as joyous ones, in a safe space. This means that I was very happy to share whatever I had written because Kirsten made me feel comfortable enough to know that whatever I had written was okay. There was no judgement.”

“I was amazed at the writing I was able to produce in such a short space of time. A pure testament to Kirsten's guidance. Beyond the writing, my poems had a 'microwave effect' to put it in her words, in that, after the workshop, I was able to follow-up and action things in my personal life that I had been putting off, or would not have done, had I not attended the workshops. Kirsten made it fun for us to write together. She made the sessions enjoyable. The amazing group poems at the end of each workshop were just the icing on the cake.”

"Attending the last 3 workshops has made me feel more confident to write, just about anything, not just poetry. There is a certain way Kirsten eases you into writing that makes one feel able to write honestly about what they are feeling or what they want to write. She has an amazing way about her, a lovely and kind voice. I don't remember looking forward to something so much like I have been looking forward to these poetry workshops. It has been a great experience.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any creative writing experience to join a workshop?

No experience of writing is needed. Always remember, you are the best writer of your own story. It is not so much about what you write, it is the fact that you do write that is important. Through our writing we can tap into our unconscious mind, helping us to explore, develop and heal.

Will I have to share my writing with the group.

You do not have to share what you have written unless you want to. However, when we share our writing, new and different insights can be revealed, leading to greater self-development and exploration and a sense of community. So it can be helpful to share, but is not necessary.

What do I need to bring?

All you need is a quiet, comfortable, and private space, something to write with, and some paper. During an online session, you will be asked to turn on your camera to promote a sense of community and togetherness with the other members of the group.

What happens during a workshop?

There will be a series of writing prompts, followed by a discussion about the feelings and thoughts arising from what we have written. In Poetry Workshops, we will explore carefully chosen poems and use these to support our own creative writing about different topics.

How long is a workshop?

Both poetry and journaling workshops usually last around 90 minutes. Taster sessions usually last for one hour.

Do you provide training for organisations?

I am happy to discuss training to support health and wellbeing for organisations. Please contact me to discuss your individual needs.
